When Ford and Ram both stopped selling small commercial vans in the United States a few years ago, the segment all but dried up. Ram has since recognized that discontinuing the ProMaster City after the 2022 model year left tradespeople, delivery operators, and shuttle companies scrambling to find alternatives—and more critically, somewhere to spend their money. The answer is the reborn 2027 Ram ProMaster City, a larger and more versatile reimagining of the nameplate.

Other than the name, the new ProMaster City shares nothing with its predecessor. Ram becomes the sixth brand to build vehicles on Stellantis's global mid-size commercial van platform, which also serves as the foundation for the Fiat Scudo, Citroën Dispatch, Vauxhall Vivaro, and several others. The North American version will be assembled in Turkey and powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder producing 166 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. This engine is related to the 1.6-liter turbo four in the new Jeep Cherokee and is manufactured in Hungary; it drives the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic, with no all-wheel-drive option offered. Ram anticipates a tow rating of around 2000 pounds, with maximum payload capacity running slightly higher.

In terms of size, the new ProMaster City has grown considerably versus the old one—nearly two feet longer overall, with the wheelbase stretching from 122.4 to 129 inches. Despite the added length, Ram says the turning radius is essentially unchanged from before. Height comes in just under 77 inches, which Ram claims makes the new ProMaster City the only Class 2 commercial van that can squeeze under an 80-inch clearance bar—meaning it fits in most parking structures and standard garages.

Cargo capacity is generous. The load floor extends over nine feet in length, the wheel wells are more than 48 inches apart, and the flat-floored cargo area can swallow 4x8 sheets of building material or two standard U.S. pallets. Ram says the squared-off cargo space totals 167 cubic feet, accessible via a standard passenger-side sliding door and a choice of two rear-door configurations: an SUV-style liftgate or barn doors that swing open up to 180 degrees.

Every ProMaster City comes standard with a 10.0-inch digital gauge cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system of equal size. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, heated front seats, navigation, and a digital rearview mirror are all included in the base Tradesmen trim. Moving up to the SLT adds front parking sensors and a wireless charging pad.

Both trims are available in cargo or passenger configurations, with the latter seating five or eight—the eight-seat count requires an optional third row. The cargo version can be ordered with solid side panels, full side glass, or a combination of the two. Visually, the SLT is the more polished of the pair, with body-color bumpers replacing the Tradesmen's unpainted pieces and alloy wheels in place of the standard 17-inch steel rims. Across the lineup, every 2027 ProMaster City wears Ram's new badge, and the van's pinched daytime running light signature is reminiscent of the grille on the discontinued electric Ram 1500 REV.

Order books open in the second half of this year, with production beginning in the fourth quarter. U.S.-spec vans are expected to reach dealers sometime in the first quarter of 2027 at a starting price below $40,000—a figure Ram says accounts for anticipated ongoing import tariffs.
