The Corvette Grand Sport is back. After offering an early preview of the new model ahead of last weekend's 12 Hours of Sebring, Chevrolet is now laying out the full story on the variant that occupies the space between the base Stingray and the Z06. Going on sale for the 2027 model year, the Grand Sport's most significant news is the engine beneath its mid-mounted lid.

The Grand Sport introduces a new small-block V-8 called the LS6. This naturally aspirated 6.7-liter engine produces 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque, all of which flows exclusively to the rear axle in the standard Grand Sport. Chevy is also offering a Grand Sport X with a hybrid all-wheel-drive system, covered in a companion article.

The 6.7-liter V-8 connects to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. We anticipate 0-to-60-mph times well under 3.0 seconds — a Z51-equipped Stingray, which makes 495 hp and 470 pound-feet from a 6.2-liter V-8, turned in a 2.8-second run in our testing.

Chevy built the LS6 around practical, accessible performance. Its 13.0:1 compression ratio sharpens throttle response, while a larger throttle body and a tunnel-ram intake manifold with high-velocity ports allow the engine to breathe more freely. The additional displacement versus the outgoing 6.2-liter LT2 came from a longer piston stroke — we've published a separate deep-dive on the LS6's engineering.

Chevy claims the LS6 generates more naturally aspirated torque than any V-8 that has previously appeared in a standard Corvette during the model's 70-plus years of existence. The LS6 is assembled in Flint, Michigan, and will power not just the Grand Sport and Grand Sport X but the 2027 Stingray as well.

Several optional packages expand the Grand Sport's performance envelope. Standard equipment includes Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4 tires and new brakes engineered to minimize dust accumulation and maintain a clean look. Magnetic Ride Control adaptive magnetorheological dampers are also fitted as standard.

The Z52 Sport Performance package adds a firmer suspension tune, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires, and the J56 high-performance iron brakes borrowed from the Z06. The top-tier Track Performance package elevates the setup further with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, J57 carbon-ceramic brakes from the Z06's Z07 equipment group, track-optimized chassis calibration, and a carbon-fiber aero kit consisting of a front splitter, dive planes, underbody strakes, and a rear wing.

A quad center exhaust is also available — a first for a pushrod V-8 in the C8 era — and will extend to the Stingray as well. The Performance Traction Management system, which gives drivers precise control over traction intervention thresholds, is available as an option.

The Grand Sport's appearance carries over the Z06's widebody look, including the expanded side air intake. The signature hash marks that previously adorned the front fenders of past Grand Sports have migrated rearward to acknowledge the C8's mid-engine configuration. Revived from the C4 generation, Admiral Blue Metallic is back and pairs with a center stripe and fender hash marks available in multiple colors. A new exterior option, Pitch Gray Metallic, joins the palette, and the Grand Sport wears exclusive 10-spoke forged aluminum wheels in four available finishes.

For the inaugural model year, Chevy will offer a Launch Edition with a Santorini Blue-Dipped interior accented by red stitching. The Grand Sport's silhouette is embossed into the headrests and integrated into the floor mats, while the gauge cluster visor is wrapped in leather with red accents oriented to the steering wheel's center mark. A Grand Sport badge on the steering wheel and a Launch Edition plaque on the speaker grille complete the special touches.

Production of the 2027 Corvette Stingray and Grand Sport is scheduled to begin this summer, with sales expected in the second half of the year. Pricing hasn't been released, but we anticipate the Grand Sport will start in the vicinity of $95,000.
