Jeep had already revealed six concepts ahead of its annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah — including a pair of retro-inspired Wranglers and a restomodded XJ Cherokee. But at the event itself, Jeep surprised attendees with two additional concepts based on its newest models: the 2026 Cherokee and the 2026 Recon EV.

The Cherokee's absence from the original Easter Jeep Safari reveal lineup raised eyebrows, but Jeep had simply been holding back the Cherokee Upland concept for a surprise in Moab. According to Jeep, this modified Cherokee represents "a more expressive, adventure-forward vision" for the model, which is now in its latest generation for the 2026 model year.

By Easter Jeep Safari standards, the Upland's modifications are relatively restrained. The front fascia has been updated with blacked-out trim below the headlights and grille, and the bumper is more muscular-looking, integrating tow hooks and apparently offering an improved approach angle. Matching tow hooks appear at the rear, and a purpose-built roof rack system tops the body.

The Upland rolls on 18-inch wheels wrapped in 32-inch Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires. The modifications read as close to production-intent, and there's a compelling reason to think they might be: the all-new 2026 Cherokee launched without a Trailhawk off-road variant, and the Upland looks very much like a preview of that missing trim. Adding weight to the theory is that the image files provided by Jeep were named "Jeep KM Trailhawk" — KM being the internal development code for this Cherokee generation.

Jeep's second Moab surprise is the Recon Overwatch concept, which takes the brand's electric alternative to the Wrangler and pushes it into more serious off-road territory. The Overwatch receives a 2-inch lift kit and rides on massive 34-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires mounted to 18-inch beadlock wheels.

The most dramatic visual change is the deletion of the doors. The concept also incorporates carbon fiber in several areas, including the extended fender flares and door sill covers. The rear quarter windows and tailgate glass have been removed as well, reinforcing the open-air, trail-ready character. Custom steel rock rails and underbody skid plates shield the drivetrain underneath, and the Overwatch is fitted with specially designed "trail-spec" side mirrors. A roof rack with cargo basket adds practical storage.

The interior gets a green upholstery treatment on the seats and steering wheel, along with heavy-duty all-weather floor mats — a practical necessity given the missing doors and windows. The Recon Overwatch is clearly more of a show piece than a production preview, serving primarily as a dramatic showcase of how Jeep's new EV could be taken to the extreme end of the off-road spectrum.
