The letter X carries many meanings. In algebra, it marks the unknown. On a treasure map, it tells you where to dig. The late DMX immortalized it in his anthemic declaration "X Gon' Give It to Ya." In Chevrolet's world, X now signals a hybrid all-wheel-drive Corvette. Following the path blazed by the ZR1X, the newly revealed 2027 Corvette Grand Sport X takes over from the outgoing E-Ray.

Beneath every C8 Corvette that isn't a ZR1 or Z06 sits GM's new LS6 small-block V-8 — a naturally aspirated 6.7-liter engine delivering 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. As with the departing E-Ray, the Grand Sport X's mid-mounted V-8 works alongside a front-axle electric motor to enable all-wheel drive. That e-motor, borrowed from the ZR1X, contributes 186 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque alongside a compact lithium-ion battery. The combined system output stands at 721 horsepower, though Chevrolet has not yet disclosed peak torque or acceleration estimates.

Both the standard rear-wheel-drive Grand Sport and the electrified Grand Sport X wear the Z06's widebody shell. Either model can be specified with the Grand Sport's traditional hash marks — now placed at the rear fender for the first time — alongside Admiral Blue paint and a white center stripe. The Grand Sport pair also shares performance hardware including standard Magnetic Ride Control adaptive dampers and Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4 tires. The GSX gains access to Michelin PS4 summer tires through an optional Performance package, though it doesn't qualify for the Cup 2 rubber available in the standard Grand Sport's track-focused package.

The Grand Sport X does, however, come standard with carbon-ceramic brakes. A unique Stealth mode enables limited pure-electric running at speeds up to 50 mph. A related Shuttle mode provides the same capability but with a 23-mph ceiling — useful for navigating parking situations without triggering noise-conscious neighbors. At the track, the hybrid system enables specialized operating modes: Endurance for extended sessions, Qualifying for maximum single-lap pace, and Push-to-Pass for instant power delivery when overtaking.

Inside, the Grand Sport X shares the Corvette family's established interior layout. Its launch model year will see a Grand Sport X Launch Edition offered, blanketing the interior almost entirely in Santorini Blue. Red contrast stitching accents the predominantly monochromatic cabin, with an embossed graphic on the headrests echoed in the floor mats. A Grand Sport badge on the steering wheel and a waterfall-style speaker trim panel round out the unique details.

Pricing for the 2027 Grand Sport X hasn't been announced, though it will almost certainly exceed the E-Ray's current $111,095 base price. Production of both Grand Sport models and the revised Stingray will begin this summer at GM's Bowling Green, Kentucky assembly plant, with dealer deliveries expected in the second half of the year.
